Austria's 40-Person Significant Economic Delegation Due Here

TEHRAN A 40-person strong Austrian delegation is arriving here early next month to explore avenues for greater economic and commercial cooperation, it was revealed here yesterday. In an interview with the TEHRAN TIMES Austrian Embassy Commercial Counselor Oskar Smrzka said, Austria attaches significant importance to Iran's ties in economic and commercial areas of cooperation. Smrzka said, The Austrian delegation will arrive here on September 5 for a two-day visit and will hold talks here with the business executives of private and public sectors.

The delegation will be headed by Austrian Federal Economic Chamber chief Leopold Maderthander, counterpart of Iran Chamber of commerce, Industry, Mines and Metals President Ali Naqi Khamoushi. Mr. Maderthander and Mr. Khamoushi already met in 1993 in Tehran and know each other very well, Smrzka said. The forthcoming negotiations between Iran and Austria are the follow up of the accords reached between the two countries in June during the course of a meeting of the two nation joint commission meeting held in Iran, Smrzka said.

The Austrian delegation is arriving here at the invitation of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Metals and its members are mostly dealers in industrial goods and transfer of technology. Smrzka said some of the Austrian delegation members will attend a seminar organized by the SAPCo, a company that produces automobile spare parts for Khodro company. Iranian engineers appreciate the quality of Austrian industrial goods and some of them have even studied in Austria, he said, adding these factors can pave the way for better Irano-Austria relations.

Smrzka said both the countries have exchanged goods worth $300 million last year. He is optimistic that in the long run trade figures will increase considerably.
